The Home Upgrade Grant (HUG) phase 2 started in April 2023. This scheme is focussed on improving the EPC of properties off the gas grid.
The Home Upgrade Grant covers the cost of insulation for homes off the mains gas grid. This makes the properties more energy efficient and cheaper to heat in the winter. The scheme commonly funds loft insulation, sometimes cavity wall insulation, and occasionally under-floor insulation. Depending on your property, other energy saving upgrades may be recommended under the scheme too.
As with other similar government schemes, the property owner does not pay for the home upgrades, it is covered by the grant.
To qualify for HUG you need to:
- Be off the mains gas grid
- Earn below £31,000 a year (as a household)
- Have an EPC rating of D, E, F or G
- Live an area where the local council has signed up to the scheme
