ECO4 is the 4th version of the Energy Company Obligation, designed to reduce fuel poverty and carbon emissions across the country, but what exactly does it cover?
The scheme places a Home Heating Cost Reduction Obligation (HHCRO) on energy suppliers. This obligates them to promote measures that allows low-income, fuel-poor and vulnerable households to warm their properties more efficiently.
What does ECO4 Cover?
Aiming to improve energy efficiency and energy prices in existing homes, the Energy Company Obligation or ECO4 will cover the following solutions:
Efficient Heating Systems
Energy-efficient heating systems such as air-source heat pumps and biomass boilers are covered under the scheme.
This revolutionary technology can replace old and inefficient fossil fuel boilers, giving households a 25% decrease in energy prices.
Boiler Repair
Some boilers may not need a replacement, but an ECO4 boiler grant allows funding for fixing a broken boiler and upgrading pre-installed non-condensing models for better efficiency.
This allows homes to make use of their boilers for up to 12 years.
The EO4 boiler repair service also includes diagnostics and cleaning along with any repair work.
Insulation
This is the most common aspect of the ECO4 scheme, helping to save around £1,800 a year on energy costs.
Cavity walls, solid walls, room-in-roof and loft insulation can be installed but this depends on household specifications.
Summary
Providing qualifying benefits and EPC Rating requirements are approved; a household can gain energy-efficient upgrades in the form of heating systems, insulation, and boiler repairs.
