With temperatures dropping below freezing across much of the UK this week, keeping warm safely is the priority. We recommend heating your main living room to at least 18°C during the day, especially if you have elderly relatives or young children in the house.

The “Frozen Pipe” Phenomenon A very common issue we see during January cold snaps is the boiler suddenly stopping working, even though it seems fine. This is often due to a frozen condensate pipe.

  • What is it? It is the white plastic pipe that comes out of your boiler and runs through the wall to the drain outside.
  • The Problem: In sub-zero temperatures, the small amount of water inside this pipe can freeze, causing a blockage. The boiler detects this and shuts down for safety.
  • The Fix: You don’t always need an engineer! You can often thaw it safely yourself by pouring warm (not boiling) water over the pipe until the ice melts. Once cleared, reset your boiler, and it should fire up again.

Worried about High Heating Bills? Heating a home in this weather is expensive, and with the end of the ECO4 grant scheme, many people are worried about how to afford efficient upgrades. If you are terrified of your next bill, it is time to look at Battery Storage.

We are currently running a special offer on Battery-Only Systems. These systems allow you to bypass expensive daytime energy rates entirely. By charging your battery on a cheap overnight tariff, you can effectively run your electric heating, heat pump, or appliances during the day for a fraction of the cost. It is one of the fastest ways to lower your bills without waiting for new government schemes to be announced.
