If you live in Scotland and want to know how the ECO4 scheme works, then you have come to the right place.
In Scotland, ECO4 works just as it does in England and Wales.
How Does ECO4 Work?
The big energy suppliers will be placed under a Heating Cost Reduction Obligation (HHRCO). They are then obligated to promote energy efficiency measures that will improve the circumstances of consumers dealing with low-income, fuel poverty, and vulnerable households.
ECO4 works in Scotland just like this, providing you are eligible for it!
What Makes You Eligible for ECO4 in Scotland?
With ECO4, you are eligible if your household has an overall income of £31,000 or under. You can also be eligible if you receive benefits:
- Child benefit
- Pension Guarantee Credit
- Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
- Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA)
- Income Support
- Tax Credits (Child Tax Credits and Working Tax Credits)
- Universal Credit
- Housing benefit
- Pension credit saving credit
If you are not on gas in your property, you could also qualify and be offered support.
ECO Flex
Local authorities can refer consumers in their respective areas to any of the obligated suppliers. These consumers will more than likely not have qualified under the traditional ECO criteria but are nonetheless in need of energy improvements thanks to their risk of fuel poverty and other vulnerabilities.
Energy Performance Certification (EPC Ratings)
The EPC of a property must reveal that significant energy improvements are needed. Households that have a rating of D or higher will not qualify for ECO4.
Ratings of F and below will get the improvements they need to raise the rating to a D.
Homes with existing ratings of D or above will be improved to a C or higher.
