Could We See a Public Energy Company Before General Election?

The Labour Party have revealed plans for what they are calling Great British Energy; a public energy company which the party would own. This has been proposed as part of their objectives to reach a net zero grid within 6 years. The company could also be up and running before the next major general election.

Ed Milliband, Labour’s Shadow Climate and Net Zero Secretary, spoke at the Innovation Zero event in London, stressing the vital importance of meeting the net zero grid target. He also pointed out that the need for collaboration is strong and that reaching this goal would be a team effort across the whole government.

He stated:

Great British Energy will partner with the private sector to unlock technologies like floating offshore wind.

We will see further investment in ports for infasructure and drive the biggest investment in home decarbonisation this country has ever seen.

Great British Energy; Public Owned Energy Company

Created by the Labour Party and owned by the public, this clean energy company would see the harnessing of the sun, wind and wave energy to:

• Save £93 Billion for UK households.
• Deliver one hundred per cent clean renewable energy by 2030.
• Cut down energy bills for good.
• Create thousands of local jobs.
• Deliver energy security.
• Make the UK energy independent.
• Labour will build an energy system for the future, for the British people.
