Energy-Saving Gift Guide 2024: Smart Gifts For Future Savings

With energy costs set to rise even further in January, these presents offer benefits that continue after the holidays. Whether you’re shopping for a tech enthusiast, a cosy homebody, or someone striving to cut back on household expenses, energy-efficient products make a thoughtful gift this Christmas.

In this guide, we’ll explore the top energy-saving gift ideas for 2024 that help your loved ones reduce energy usage and lower their bills—all while being kind to the planet.

How to Choose the Best Energy-Saving Gift

When shopping for energy-efficient presents, keep these tips in mind:

  1. Check Energy Ratings: Look for high-rated products like A++ or Energy Star certified.
  2. Think Practicality: Consider the recipient’s lifestyle and home setup.
  3. Long-Term Value: Choose gifts that save energy (and money!) year-round.

Our Top 5 Energy-Saving Gift Ideas

1. Energy-Saving Kitchen Gadgets

Who doesn’t love a kitchen gadget? Air fryers, pressure cookers, and induction hobs are brilliant for whipping up tasty meals while using less energy than a regular oven or stovetop. Air fryers are up to 50% more energy-efficient than ovens, and can save approximately £90 a year. They’re a real win-win—saving time and money with every use. Perfect for the foodie in your life or anyone who loves experimenting in the kitchen.

2. Stylish Home Accessories

Stylish home accessories can be a simple yet effective way to save energy while adding a personal touch to any space. Gifts like energy-efficient lighting, draught-proof door seals, or a thick, cosy throw blanket not only help keep warmth in and the cold out but also reduce the need for extra heating.

3. Solar-Powered Tech

For the tech lover who also cares about the environment, solar-powered gadgets are a fantastic gift. From solar phone chargers to outdoor lights, these devices harness the power of the sun, reducing reliance on electricity. Not only are they practical and energy-efficient, but they also add a sustainable touch to everyday life. A great gift for anyone who wants to go green without compromising on tech!

4. Home Decor

Energy-saving gifts don’t have to be all about gadgets—sometimes, a thoughtful home decoration can make a big difference. Items like thermal curtains, draught excluders, and plush rugs not only add warmth and comfort to a space but also help reduce heating costs. For example, thermal curtains save approximately£150 off energy bills each year. With a range of designs to suit every taste, these gifts are perfect for anyone wanting to create a cosy, energy-efficient home.

5. Portable Energy Solutions

Energy-saving gifts don’t just belong at home! Portable energy solutions like solar-powered chargers, portable power banks, and eco-friendly travel mugs are perfect for those who like to stay connected while being mindful of their energy use. These handy gadgets reduce the need for traditional power sources, making them ideal for anyone constantly on the move, or for the commuter who enjoys their morning coffee. A thoughtful and practical gift that’s both convenient and sustainable.

I
I have electric storage heaters thy are very expensive and are cold 1700hrs and thy cost £390 each to charge over night which makes it very expensive to heat the house

Hi Roy,

Thank you for contacting us and leaving a comment.

Unfortunately, electric storage heaters are notoriously expensive and inefficient to run. Upgrading to a new heating system would help you keep your property warmer for longer and save money on your energy bills. If your property has a low EPC rating of E,F or G, you could qualify for a Government scheme that would help you upgrade your system for free. Please follow this link for further information.

How about reducing the cost of my electricity bills (stop standing charge) instead of sending inane emails like this one which we are well aware of but cannot afford, i.e. air fryers, etc. My electricity bill for ONE room for December was £227.84 and as my main heating is gas for December, £193.33: only 4 radiators on at either 1 or 2. I have to live on a pension – wonder how Reeves or for that matter, the fat cats with their gold-plated pensions would cope. You could easily give people who do not want a smart meter (which are notorious for having problems) the same deals after all I religiously send in my meter readings on the last day of the month. Or abolish NET ZERO which everyone knows is just a money-earner for the government and their interested cronies.

Hi Janet

Thank you for contacting us and leaving a comment.

I completely understand your frustration regarding the price of utilities at the moment. Unfortunately, as a company we don’t have the power to change Government legislation or fluctuating energy prices.
However, as a ‘not for profit organisation’, at Energy Advice Helpline we try to offer alternative solutions to support people who are struggling through these financially tough times.

You mention that you are a pensioner; have you explored all the routes that could potentially help you to top up your pension and keep your home warmer during the coldest months? Here are some links to various schemes that are available at the moment – Pension Credit, Warm Home Discount and Cold Weather Payments?

There could also be cheaper energy tariffs available than the one you’re currently on. If you’ve been with the same energy supplier or on the same tariff for a long time, it might be time to change. There are dedicated energy comparison websites such as USwitch or Switcheroo that can help make this process simpler. If you’re not keen on switching your supplier completely, you could also contact the energy company that you’re currently with to see if they have a better deal.

Unfortunately, the Net Zero Target does seem to be getting a lot of bad press. However this is genuine legislation that has been passed in conjunction with the Climate Change Committee to prevent further catastrophic and irreversible damage being caused to the environment. To offset the damage, the UK has pledged to reduce its contribution to greenhouse gases and CO2 emissions by 2050.

To reach this goal, the UK Government and energy companies have collaborated to offer grants to households with the least energy-efficient homes. These are usually properties that have an EPC rating of E,F or G.

These grants are funded through a ‘green tax’ that is automatically applied to all household fuel bills. If you have a property that is eligible for this type of funding, we urge you to explore this avenue via the above link. It could help you to make your property more energy efficient and bring down your current energy bills at no extra cost to you.

I hope this information has been of some help to your current situation.
