One thing that shouldn’t be giving you chills is your home. But we understand that rising energy bills can cause a scare – that’s why we’re outlining some simple ways to cut your costs and access free support this Halloween.
Now in the colder months of UK weather, many homeowners are faced with a familiar fear: skyrocketing energy bills. Whether it’s the result of cranking up the heat or leaving lights on longer during the shorter days, it’s easy for energy costs to creep up on you!
Easy Ways To Reduce Your Energy Bills
1. Beware of phantom power
Even when your devices are turned off, they could still be draining energy — a phenomenon often referred to as “phantom power.” Things like televisions, game consoles, and kitchen appliances can silently suck up electricity just by being plugged in. To avoid this, unplug any devices you’re not using, or invest in smart power strips that cut off power when devices go into standby mode. Find out what appliances could be sneakily costing you here.
2. Find the energy vampires in your home
Certain devices can be really energy hungry. But another way energy can be sucked form your home is through poorly-insulated areas , like roofs, windows, walls, and floors. You may be able to get your home insulated completely free of charge under a government-backed initiative.

3. Use LED lightbulbs
LED light bulbs use up to 80% less energy than traditional bulbs, they also last longer — so you can use them again next Halloween! For indoor ambiance, try candles or battery-operated lanterns to avoid overloading your electric bill.
4. Keep the chills outside
Trapping the heat in rooms is a great way to avoid over-working your boiler and keep your costs low. Keeping doors closed means you only need to turn your radiators on in rooms that need it, keeping your energy waste and costs low. For added warmth, instead use thicker blankets, layer up, and use ah hot water bottle. Find out other alternatives to keep warm without turning your boiler on here.
